Library Paste

1 c. flour
3 c. water
1 c. sugar
1 t. alum

Mix flour, sugar and alum thoroughly.  Add a little water to make smooth paste, then add rest of water and bring to boil slowly.  Place over water (double boiler) and cook 20 minutes.  Add 20 drops of oil of cloves or oil of wintergreen.
